UTICA AUD COMMISSIONED

by Nick Mecca

In early 1956, the project to create the Utica Memorial Auditorium was commissioned. City officials explained that the purpose of the Auditorium would be to attract people towards the area's hotels, restaurants and stores. The idea to build an Auditorium in Utica originated from Mayor John T. McKennan, who made the construction pledge during his first year of office. He enlisted the help of city engineer Frank M. Romano and other important city members to help push the project forward.
